Microsoft announced on Wednesday that its AI-powered Designer app is officially out of preview and now available to all users on iOS and Android. The Canva-like app allows users to generate images and designs using text prompts to create various items such as stickers, greeting cards, invitations, and collages.
Designer is now accessible in over 80 languages on the web, available as a free mobile app, and as an app in Windows.
The app features “prompt templates” designed to help kickstart the creative process. These templates include styles and descriptions that users can experiment with and customize. Additionally, users can share templates to collaborate and build on each other’s ideas.
In addition to stickers, users can create emojis, clip art, wallpapers, monograms, avatars, and more using text prompts.
Designer also allows users to edit and restyle images with AI. For example, users can upload a selfie, select from a set of styles, and add any extra details they want to transform their photo.
Soon, Designer will include a “replace background” feature, enabling users to transform images using text prompts.
With the launch of the standalone Designer app, Microsoft announced that it’s integrating the service into apps like Word and PowerPoint through Copilot. Users with a Copilot Pro subscription can create images and designs within their workflow. Soon, users will also be able to create a banner for their Word document based on its content.
As part of Wednesday’s announcement, Microsoft revealed that Microsoft Photos on Windows 11 is getting deeper integration with Designer. Users can now use AI to edit photos without leaving the Photos app. Features include erasing objects, removing backgrounds, and auto-cropping images directly within the app.
