Apple is stepping up its game in AI technology with the latest developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1, introducing an innovative feature that takes photo editing to the next level. The new tool, aptly named “Clean Up,” allows users to effortlessly remove unwanted objects from their photos with just a tap.

Imagine snapping the perfect shot, only to realize there’s an unsightly object in the background. With Clean Up, that’s no longer a problem. Leveraging advanced AI capabilities, this feature lets users select and eliminate objects from images without disturbing the integrity of the rest of the photo. The AI smart detection can identify objects, and with a simple tap, they’re gone. But Apple didn’t stop there—the feature also allows users to draw a circle or brush over any unwanted elements for removal.

What sets Clean Up apart is its ability to intelligently regenerate the background where the object once was. Apple’s AI doesn’t just erase; it understands the nuances of lighting, shadows, and reflections, ensuring that the image looks natural and untouched. The background is seamlessly filled in, making it nearly impossible to tell that anything was ever there.

This move follows Google’s introduction of a similar tool, Magic Eraser, for Google Photos earlier this year. However, Apple’s integration of AI into its photo editing tools within iOS, iPadOS, and macOS suggests a deeper commitment to enhancing user experiences through machine learning.

Since July, Apple has been gradually rolling out its Apple Intelligence features in the iOS 18.1 developer betas, and Clean Up is just the latest addition. Other features include advanced writing tools, notification summaries for SMS and Mail, natural language search in Photos, transcription for calls and voice recordings in Notes, and smart replies in Mail. For now, Apple Intelligence is available exclusively to users who have their language set to English and their region selected as the U.S.

Apple’s latest advancements underscore its dedication to making technology more intuitive and powerful for its users. With Clean Up, editing photos becomes a seamless experience, empowering users to perfect their images with ease. As AI continues to evolve, it’s clear that Apple is positioning itself at the forefront of this revolution, making everyday tasks smarter and more efficient.
