The agents can perform complex tasks to help you get started on projects.

Adobe is ushering in a new chapter for creatives with the development of AI-powered agents for its flagship applications—Photoshop and Premiere Pro. In a blog post published today by Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer of Digital Media, the company shared its ambitious vision of transforming the way users interact with their creative tools.

These “creative agents,” as Adobe calls them, are designed to not only suggest intelligent edits based on the content of your media, but also to execute those tasks automatically. The goal? To simplify complex workflows, assist users in learning advanced techniques, and elevate the creative process without compromising artistic control.

Smarter Editing with Photoshop’s Creative Agent

Photoshop is set to debut a groundbreaking floating Actions panel, where its new creative agent will reside. This AI agent is context-aware—it can analyze an image and offer personalized suggestions for improvement. Imagine being able to remove unwanted background figures or add depth-of-field effects with a single click. That’s the level of intelligent automation Adobe aims to deliver.

Traditionally, Photoshop users have had to painstakingly mask objects, create multiple layers, and fine-tune details manually. While those tools still exist for those who want full control, Adobe’s creative agent will offer a faster, more intuitive alternative. It builds on features like Generative Fill, Content-Aware Expand, and Distraction Removal, taking them a step further by allowing users to interact via natural language prompts.

In a demo shared by Adobe, a user asks the Photoshop agent to clean up an image and add a text box behind the subject. The AI responds by listing and executing the steps: remove background people, auto-brighten the image, eliminate distracting elements, create and organize layers for both the subject and the text box—all in seconds.

This opens the door to a revolutionary workflow—one where users can not only complete tasks quickly but also learn how those edits are made. Greenfield emphasizes that this dual benefit of automation and education will help creatives grow their skills while saving time.

Premiere Pro’s Agent: Smarter Video Editing on the Horizon

Photoshop isn’t the only app getting smarter. Adobe is also investing heavily in AI for Premiere Pro, starting with the recent release of its Media Intelligence feature. This tool analyzes footage for key visual elements—like objects and composition—allowing editors to search for the perfect shot in seconds.

Building on this foundation, Adobe plans to introduce a creative agent for video editing, capable of performing rough cuts and suggesting improvements to your timeline. Instead of dragging clips around and making endless tweaks, users will be able to direct the agent using natural language commands like: “Trim awkward pauses,” or “Add B-roll of a city skyline here.”

Future versions of the Premiere Pro agent will go even further, assisting with:

  • Refining shot choices
  • Color grading
  • Audio mixing
  • Scene transitions
  • Timeline optimization

Adobe also announced Generative Extend, a feature that uses AI to add seconds of content to video clips—ideal for smoothing out transitions or meeting timing requirements in professional edits.

A New Relationship Between Humans and Creative Tools

While AI is at the core of this innovation, Adobe is clear about its philosophy: AI is not here to replace creativity—it’s here to empower it.

“While AI can’t replace human creative inspiration, with your input it can make some educated guesses to help you get your project off the ground,” Greenfield writes. “It can also help you learn how to perform complex tasks with a few simple keystrokes, helping you grow as an editor.”

These creative agents are designed to be collaborative companions, not replacements. Whether you’re an aspiring designer or a seasoned video editor, Adobe wants you to feel more confident, more creative, and more in control.

Coming Soon: A Glimpse at Adobe MAX London

Adobe will unveil the technology behind its first creative agent for Photoshop at the upcoming Adobe MAX event in London on April 24th. The event is expected to showcase the real-world capabilities of the AI agent, and offer insights into how Adobe is shaping the future of digital creativity.

With these innovative tools on the horizon, one thing is clear: Adobe is not just enhancing its software—it’s redefining the creative experience.

Stay tuned—because the future of creative editing is smarter, faster, and more intuitive than ever before.
