Automattic, the renowned owner of WordPress.com, has introduced a cutting-edge AI tool aimed at helping bloggers craft clearer and more concise content.

This new addition, Write Brief with AI, is part of a growing trend of writing assistants released in recent years by notable companies such as privacy app maker Proton and tech giant Google.

Write Brief with AI complements Automattic’s previously launched generative AI writing assistant for WordPress. The tool aids users in constructing content through text-based prompts and allows them to adjust the tone of their posts to be more informal or empathetic, among other styles.

Currently in beta, Write Brief with AI is available through Jetpack, a suite of features that enhance the functionality of WordPress.com-hosted websites. For now, the tool is only accessible for WordPress.com sites during the initial beta phase and is free of charge. Users can access it via the Jetpack icon located at the top-right corner of the editor.

With Write Brief with AI, users receive feedback on wordiness and can utilize a “Suggest” button to automatically simplify sentences. The tool also highlights language that lacks confidence, such as overuse of words like “possibly,” and identifies overly complex terms that could alienate readers.

Additionally, the tool provides a readability score based on three metrics: complexity, sentence length, and confidence.

The WordPress Web

While ChatGPT has become synonymous with the generative AI movement, Automattic holds a unique position as a major influencer of the web as we know it. The company is a key contributor to the open-source, self-hosted WordPress project and the developer behind the commercial WordPress.com platform. Integrating AI capabilities into its widespread blogging platform is poised to drive substantial adoption.

Automattic revealed that Write Brief with AI originated from an internal hack week project. After a successful internal rollout, the company decided to offer it to the public. “We saw just how useful and beloved it quickly became, and decided to release it into the world,” wrote Noam Almosnino, Automattic’s senior product designer, in a blog post.

While the broader AI writing assistant released last year supports a dozen languages, Write Brief with AI is currently limited to English.

By refining the tone and expanding on key points, this revised blog article aims to be more engaging and professional while maintaining its original length and readability.
