Ayaneo’s Retro Power Bank delivers 45W charging speeds and ’90s nostalgia for $39.99.

Ayaneo’s Retro Power Bank may not be the most powerful portable charger out there, but it certainly stands out as the first to enclose a 12,000mAh lithium battery in a miniature tribute to the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo. Now, it’s available on the company’s online store for $39.99.

Known primarily for its handheld gaming PCs that rival Valve’s Steam Deck, Ayaneo teased a lineup of retro-themed devices late last year, including this portable charger. At first glance, it resembles the Super Famicom, but upon closer inspection, you’ll notice there’s no cartridge slot, and what looks like controller ports are actually USB-C ports.

The Retro Power Bank from Ayaneo is significantly smaller than Nintendo’s SNES Classic Edition console and even smaller than most smartphones. It can charge a single device at speeds up to 45W. However, when both USB-C ports are in use, the charging speed drops to a maximum of 15W per port. It’s ideal for use with a smartphone, tablet, or handheld gaming device. For powering a laptop away from an outlet, a larger power bank would be more suitable.

This power bank features a tiny 0.91-inch monochromatic OLED display that provides real-time information on the charging speeds of connected devices, the power bank’s charge level, and its temperature. A pair of buttons (originally the Super Famicom’s power and reset buttons) allow you to navigate menus and configure what’s shown on the screen.

While it’s not the most capacious power bank you can get for $39.99—considering Anker alternatives with larger 20,000mAh batteries and basic screens are available for less—Ayaneo’s compact charger is worth considering. With 45W charging speeds, it’s more than just a tiny Super Famicom in your pocket.
