GameSir’s latest mobile controller brings a unique advantage — it’s compatible with the Nintendo Switch. In addition to transforming iOS and Android smartphones into handheld gaming consoles free from the limitations of touchscreen controls, the new GameSir G8 Plus offers an ergonomic alternative to the Switch’s Joy-Cons, eliminating concerns over joystick drift.

Unlike many clamp-on gaming controllers that connect physically via USB-C or Lightning ports, the GameSir G8 Plus utilizes Bluetooth. This allows it to connect seamlessly to smartphones, tablets, the Switch, and even PCs without needing a specific connector version.

Battery and Weight Considerations

The gamepad operates with a pair of 500mAh rechargeable batteries. While this adds an extra charging task to your routine, it also contributes an additional 314 grams to the device it’s attached to.

Enhanced Gaming Experience

The GameSir G8 Plus features drift-resistant Hall effect sensors in its joysticks and analog triggers, ensuring gamers won’t face unwanted button presses or movements. For FPS enthusiasts, the triggers can be switched to “Hair Trigger Mode” for enhanced responsiveness.

With a six-axis gyroscope, motion controls are supported, and a pair of vibration motors provide haptic feedback. Notably, the G8 Plus can wake the Switch with a single button press, a feature not commonly found in third-party controllers.

Versatility and Customization

The controller’s clamping mechanism can expand to 215 millimeters to fit larger smartphones and tablets like the iPad Mini. It’s customizable with magnetic faceplates that pop off easily and swappable caps for the joysticks and face buttons. This feature appeals to gamers who like to personalize their gear, though alternative faceplates are still in development according to the company.

PC Compatibility

Bluetooth support allows the GameSir G8 Plus to connect to a PC and function as a standalone wireless controller. For gamers seeking less lag, a direct connection to a computer via a USB-C cable is also an option.

Pricing and Availability

The GameSir G8 Plus is currently available for $79.99, which is more affordable than the $99.99 Backbone One and equivalent to a set of replacement Joy-Cons that may still suffer from joystick drift.
