There are new features for Android and Pixel phones, including live location sharing in the Find My app.

In a significant move to bolster user security, Google Messages is rolling out an innovative AI-powered scam detection feature designed to safeguard Android users from fraudulent texts. This new tool is part of a broader update that introduces several exciting features, including live location sharing through the Find My app and exclusive upgrades for Pixel device owners, like multicamera streaming support and enhanced text-to-image options in Pixel Studio.

Real-Time Scam Detection: How It Works

The new scam detection feature in Google Messages actively monitors SMS, MMS, and RCS messages for suspicious patterns, analyzing conversations in real time. When the AI identifies a potential scam, users receive an immediate warning, giving them the option to either dismiss the alert or take action by reporting and blocking the sender.

Google explains that traditional spam filters primarily prevent scams from reaching users in the first place, but many modern scams start with innocent-seeming messages before escalating into harmful schemes. This is where the new AI-powered protection stands out.

“Traditional spam protections are focused on protecting users before the conversation starts and are less effective against these latest tactics from scammers that turn dangerous mid-conversation and use social engineering techniques,” says Alberto Pastor Nieto, Senior Product Manager for Google Messages. “To better protect users, we invested in new, intelligent AI models capable of detecting suspicious patterns and delivering real-time warnings over the course of a conversation, all while prioritizing user privacy.”

The scam detection feature is initially launching in English and will be available to users in the US, UK, and Canada, with plans to expand to more countries in the near future. By default, the feature only scans conversations with unsaved contacts, and all message analysis happens directly on the device to ensure user privacy. Those who prefer not to use the feature can turn it off in the Spam Protection settings within the app.

Enhanced Location Sharing for Android Users

Alongside scam detection, Android users will now have access to a new live location sharing feature within the Find My app. This feature lets users share their location with trusted contacts, making it easier to coordinate meetups or locate friends and family.

Google reassures users that shared location data is securely stored, and users have full control over who they share their location with and for how long. The app also sends regular reminders to keep users aware of who can see their location, adding an extra layer of safety.

This functionality complements the existing Google Maps location sharing but makes it more convenient to manage everything in a single app. Whether you’re tracking down a lost device or meeting up with friends in a crowded area, the streamlined experience is a welcome improvement.

Exclusive Upgrades for Pixel Users

Google is also rolling out a set of powerful new features tailored for Pixel devices. Pixel 9 users, in particular, are in for a treat with multicamera streaming support, which lets them connect GoPro cameras or other Pixel phones via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to capture footage from multiple angles. This feature works seamlessly with popular apps like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and TikTok, making it easier than ever to create dynamic, multi-perspective content.

The Pixel Studio app is getting a creative boost as well. Users can now generate stylized images or stickers of people, intentionally designed to avoid hyper-realistic renderings and mitigate potential misuse of the tool.

More Features to Love on Pixel Devices

In addition to these headline features, Pixel devices are receiving a host of smaller but impactful upgrades:

  • Satellite Messaging: Pixel 9 users on Verizon and T-Mobile can now send and receive messages via satellite, providing a critical lifeline in areas without cellular coverage.
  • Screenshot Suggestions: Pixel Screenshots will automatically recommend which captures to save to collections, making it easier to organize memories or important info.
  • Enhanced Transcription: Pixel Watches, Tablets, and Pixel 6 phones and newer can now transfer old audio recordings to the Recorder app, where they’ll be automatically transcribed and saved for future reference.

Rolling Out Now

These exciting features are starting to roll out today, though it may take a few weeks for them to reach all supported devices. Whether you’re an Android user excited about scam protection or a Pixel owner eager to explore multicamera streaming, this latest update packs plenty of reasons to be enthusiastic.

Google’s commitment to blending security, convenience, and creativity shines through in this update, demonstrating once again why Android remains one of the most versatile and user-friendly platforms on the market.

So, keep an eye on your Google Messages and Find My app — and get ready to explore a safer, smarter, and more connected mobile experience.
