Google is on the brink of launching the fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, and excitement is building as details continue to emerge. Initial leaks surfaced last week, and now the same leaker has shared more documents on X, revealing an array of impressive new features. Among these are a customizable homescreen, an innovative “Dynamic Farsight” feature, and a sleek “borderless” display.

A Borderless Display for a Sleeker Look

One of the standout enhancements in the fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat is its “high-res borderless display.” This cutting-edge display allows the user interface (UI) to extend into what was previously a black bezel area on the third-generation models. The result is a more immersive and modern look, with UI elements appearing much closer to the edges of the display.

Introducing Dynamic Farsight

While details on the new “Dynamic Farsight” feature remain sparse, its potential is intriguing. On existing Nest models, Farsight wakes up the unit when you approach, displaying useful information like weather, time, or room temperature. The “dynamic” aspect suggests that the fourth-generation model may offer a more versatile display of information, possibly integrating multiple data points at once rather than limiting users to specific options.

Customizable Homescreen and Natural Heating and Cooling

Another exciting development is the customizable homescreen, which promises to give users more control over their thermostat’s interface. Although specifics on this customization are still under wraps, it’s a promising step toward a more personalized user experience. Additionally, the mention of “natural heating and cooling” hints at an eco-friendly feature, though its exact functionality is yet to be detailed.

Comprehensive Integration and Enhanced App Experience

The new thermostat will be accompanied by an oval-shaped trim plate, a standard thermostat base, a rear steel plate, and a second-generation Nest Temperature Sensor. One significant upgrade is the full integration with the Google Home app, providing a complete UI that allows users to adjust settings and control schedules without switching to the separate Nest app. This new model will also be compatible with any Matter-enabled smart home app, further enhancing its versatility.

Hopes for Improved Internals

While the leaks don’t mention specific hardware upgrades beyond the display, there is hope that Google has made substantial improvements to the internals. The third-generation Nest Learning Thermostats have been plagued by Wi-Fi chip issues, often requiring replacements. Given that nearly a decade has passed since the last major update, users are optimistic that the new model will offer greater reliability and performance.

Pricing and Availability

According to the leaker, the fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat will be priced at $279, making it the most expensive Nest thermostat to date. The new Nest Temperature Sensors will be available for $39 each or three for $99. We anticipate official launch dates and pricing details to be announced during the “Made by Google” hardware event on August 13th.

Stay tuned for more updates on Google’s innovative advancements in smart home technology as we approach the official release.
