Every piece of software must undergo rigorous quality assurance (QA) testing to ensure it functions correctly and is free of bugs. Traditionally, this process involves human testers meticulously creating test cases and scrutinizing the software interface for potential issues. However, a Raleigh, North Carolina startup, MuukTest, is set to transform this landscape with a groundbreaking new AI agent that promises to automate this intricate process.

On Tuesday, MuukTest announced the launch of their innovative AI agent, designed to streamline the creation of test cases through automation. Co-founder and CEO Ivan Barajas Vargas shared the company’s ambitious vision with TechCrunch, stating, “Since we started, the vision has been automating software QA technology to reduce test creation to a click, and that has been the whole vision.”

MuukTest’s advanced tools empower testers to evaluate every menu, button, and function within a software user interface under various conditions, aiming to detect as many bugs as possible before the software reaches the public. CTO and co-founder Renan Ugalde emphasized that their goal is to leverage decades of QA experience and cutting-edge engineering expertise to train an AI agent capable of building comprehensive test suites.

The integration of multiple AI technologies—including large language models, traditional machine learning, computer vision, and image recognition—enables the AI agents to think like QA testers. “We trained AI agents to understand the context within the application – to recognize what a menu is, what an input is, and anticipate expected outcomes,” Ugalde explained. This sophisticated understanding requires reinforcement learning and a deep contextual grasp, informed by the founders’ extensive QA experience.

The term ‘AI agent’ has become synonymous with AI-powered software that assists with specific tasks, although its definition remains fluid. For MuukTest, the AI agent serves as an intelligent assistant, handling routine tasks that human QA testers typically perform. This innovative approach allows human testers to focus on more complex and critical aspects of QA testing.

The journey of MuukTest’s founders is as inspiring as their technological advancements. Both originally from Mexico, Barajas Vargas and Ugalde immigrated to the U.S. in 2011. Barajas Vargas honed his skills at Dell, while Ugalde advanced his career at IBM. In 2019, they united their expertise to launch MuukTest with a clear objective: to drastically reduce the effort required to generate and execute QA tests.

Initially, MuukTest employed no-code solutions and algorithms to create tests. However, their latest generative AI product represents a significant leap forward. Customers can now simply describe the desired test suite, and MuukTest’s AI automatically generates it. The resulting test suite can be executed with a single click, significantly minimizing the required effort.

MuukTest’s innovative approach began to resonate with the market early last year, achieving a remarkable 15x revenue increase over the previous year, even before integrating the AI element. With their new capabilities, the company is poised for even more accelerated growth.

Participating in MassChallenge, a Massachusetts-based startup incubator, in their launch year, MuukTest has raised a total of $6 million through investments and grants. The company operates with 36 employees and 10 contractors, maintaining a conservative approach to spending to ensure sustainable growth.

Starting today, the new AI agent capability is generally available, marking a significant milestone in MuukTest’s mission to revolutionize software QA testing. With this innovative technology, MuukTest is set to redefine the standards of software quality assurance, making the testing process more efficient, effective, and automated than ever before.
