The Find N5 can not only share files with a Mac, but turns into a teeny tiny laptop too.
Oppo has once again pushed the boundaries of innovation with the launch of the Find N5, the slimmest book-style foldable phone to date. But this device isn’t just about its ultra-thin design—it comes packed with a groundbreaking feature: the ability to remotely control a Mac and transfer files seamlessly. While remote connectivity between an Android phone and a Mac isn’t entirely new, Oppo’s Find N5 is the first foldable phone available globally to offer this level of integration—setting a new standard for cross-platform compatibility.
Bridging the Gap: How the Find N5 Connects to a Mac
To unlock this powerful capability, Mac users must install Oppo’s O Plus Connect app, which will soon be officially available on Oppo’s website. I had the opportunity to test a beta version, and the setup process is impressively straightforward.
Once both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, pairing the phone with the Mac is quick and intuitive. Within the Connection & Sharing settings of the Find N5, users can access an entire suite of remote control and file-sharing options.
While file transfers between Macs and Android devices have traditionally been cumbersome—often requiring third-party software or USB cables—Oppo’s new solution is seamless, allowing users to wirelessly browse and move files between the two devices.
Remote Control: Your Mac in the Palm of Your Hand
Perhaps the most intriguing feature of this integration is the ability to mirror a Mac’s display onto the Find N5, effectively turning the phone into a compact remote workstation. Unlike file transfers, this function doesn’t require both devices to be on the same network—as long as they are online, the phone can access and control the Mac from virtually anywhere.
Oppo has introduced several ways to interact with macOS via the phone’s dinky yet versatile touchscreen:
- Mini Laptop Mode: Folding the phone halfway allows users to split the display, transforming the bottom half into a virtual keyboard.
- Trackpad Mode: Instead of a keyboard, the bottom half of the screen can be used as a multi-touch trackpad, offering gesture support for smooth navigation.
- On-Screen Mouse & Shortcut Buttons: An alternative setup includes an on-screen cursor and dedicated buttons for common keyboard shortcuts.
While these options bring a whole new level of functionality, they are not without their quirks. macOS isn’t optimized for touch controls, making tapping and dragging somewhat hit-or-miss. During my week of testing, performance was mostly smooth, but on one occasion, a noticeable lag rendered the feature frustratingly unusable. It’s a clever feature, but one that’s best reserved for emergency use rather than daily productivity.

The Real Win: Effortless File Sharing
While the remote control feature may feel more like a gimmick in its current state, the real value lies in Oppo’s enhanced file-sharing capabilities. This is an evolution of the existing O Plus Connect app, which already supports file transfers between Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme phones and Apple devices (iPhones and iPads). Now, with Mac compatibility, Oppo is further cementing its role as a leader in seamless cross-platform integration.
For Windows PC users, a similar app has been available for a while, but Mac users have long been left out of the equation—until now. Oppo’s move to include Mac connectivity marks a significant milestone, making the Find N5 one of the most versatile foldables in the market.
A First for Oppo, but Not for the Industry
Oppo isn’t entirely alone in this endeavor. Vivo introduced a similar feature in April 2024, offering Mac remote control on its China-exclusive OriginOS devices. However, since Vivo’s feature remains restricted to the Chinese market, Oppo’s Find N5 is the first foldable globally available with this level of Mac integration.

Unfortunately, the Find N5 won’t be launching in the U.S., as OnePlus (Oppo’s sister brand) has confirmed that it will not release the phone stateside. Still, for users in other regions, this represents a significant breakthrough in Android-to-Mac compatibility.
What’s Next? More Devices, More Compatibility
Oppo has hinted that this feature will expand to more devices in the future, but the company has yet to confirm which models—or when the rollout will happen. Could OnePlus devices in the U.S. gain access to this feature? It’s a possibility, but for now, Find N5 users are the first to experience this next-level Mac connectivity.
Final Thoughts: A Step in the Right Direction
Oppo’s Find N5 is a remarkable foldable phone, not just because of its ultra-thin design but because of its ambitious approach to cross-platform functionality. While the remote control feature still has room for improvement, the effortless wireless file-sharing alone makes this a game-changer for Mac users who also use an Android device.
With further refinements and broader device support, Oppo could set a new industry standard for Android-Mac integration. For now, the Find N5 is a compelling choice for tech enthusiasts looking for an innovative and practical foldable phone.
Stay tuned—because if Oppo continues on this trajectory, we might just see the most seamless Android-Apple collaboration yet.
