AI-powered features are launching across the Creative Cloud suite, with new tools also inside Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign.

Adobe has just kicked off its annual Adobe Max conference, unveiling a suite of exciting AI-powered features across its Creative Cloud applications. Among the biggest highlights are the new AI enhancements to Photoshop, including automatic background removal and a more advanced version of the Firefly generative AI model. But that’s just the start—Adobe is also rolling out significant updates for Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro, all designed to streamline traditionally time-consuming design tasks.

Photoshop Gets Smarter with Distraction Removal

One of the standout additions to Photoshop is the brand-new “Distraction Removal” feature, integrated into the existing Remove Tool. This tool already functions similarly to Google’s Magic Eraser on Pixel phones, allowing users to easily remove unwanted objects from photos by simply brushing over them. Now, with Distraction Removal, Photoshop takes it a step further by automatically identifying and removing common distractions—such as people, wires, and cables—with a single click. This highly anticipated feature, teased by Adobe last year, is now available in both Photoshop’s desktop and web apps, with even more updates promised in the near future.

But that’s not all. Photoshop users can now choose how the Remove Tool operates: they can opt for generative AI, powered by Adobe’s Firefly image model, or stick with non-generative AI technology. For those unsure which option to use, there’s a third setting that automatically selects the best technology for the task, based on the specific image and scene. This ensures users always get the highest-quality result, regardless of the complexity of their edits.

Enhanced Generative AI Features

Adobe’s suite of generative AI tools—Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generate Similar, and Generate Background—has also received a major boost, thanks to the rollout of the latest Firefly Image 3 model. Initially launched in beta in April, the Firefly 3 model improves both the variety and photorealistic quality of generated content and has a better understanding of complex prompts than its predecessor. These AI tools are now generally available in Photoshop and have been seamlessly integrated into the web app, making advanced editing more accessible than ever. The ability to instantly select all objects in an image using AI further simplifies the design process, allowing creatives to spend less time on tedious tasks and more on creative exploration.

New Tools for Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro

Adobe isn’t stopping at Photoshop. Illustrator is receiving a notable upgrade with the introduction of the “Objects on Path” feature, a tool that gives users the ability to attach, arrange, and manipulate objects along any path with ease. This offers designers more flexibility and control over aligning elements in their compositions. Additionally, the long-awaited Mockup tool, designed for staging and previewing designs on 3D models, is now widely available. The improved Image Trace feature, which converts raster images (like JPEGs and PNGs) into scalable vector graphics, now delivers crisper, more accurate vectorized outputs, closely mimicking the original images.

InDesign, another industry-favorite app, is also seeing the introduction of the popular Generative Expand tool, first made available in Photoshop. This tool allows users to extend images to perfectly fit their desired layouts, adding versatility to layout design workflows.

Meanwhile, over in Premiere Pro, Adobe is introducing a beta version of its new Firefly AI Video Model, bringing the generative power of Firefly to video editing. The Generative Extend feature, included in this update, is just a glimpse of what’s to come. Adobe hinted that this model will serve as a foundation for more AI-driven features to be rolled out across the Creative Cloud video apps in the coming year.

AI-Driven Creativity: What’s Next?

Adobe’s latest AI-powered tools are designed to elevate creativity by reducing the manual labor required for many design processes. Whether you’re removing distractions from a photo, expanding an image to fit a layout, or vectorizing a complex graphic, these new features promise to save time while delivering professional results. With AI capabilities now deeply embedded in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro, the future of creative work looks faster, smarter, and more intuitive than ever before.

As Adobe continues to refine its Firefly generative AI models, it’s clear that this technology is poised to transform the creative process. These updates mark a significant step forward in Adobe’s mission to empower creatives with cutting-edge tools, making it easier than ever to bring their visions to life.

Stay tuned—there’s no doubt that even more groundbreaking AI features will be coming to Creative Cloud apps soon.
