Meta’s Threads social network continues its impressive growth, recently surpassing 150 million monthly users. To further fuel this expansion, the tech giant has initiated a limited-time bonus program designed to incentivize engaging content creation on the platform.

The buzz surrounding this program has been circulating in recent days. In a statement to TechCrunch, Meta confirmed the existence of an invite-only creator program, initially tested in March. Bonus eligibility for invited creators will be based on “individualized” requirements, tailored to their specific contributions. For now, participation is restricted to U.S.-based creators, with potential expansion based on the program’s success.

Meta outlines the criteria for bonus eligibility on its support page. Creators must establish a public Threads profile and adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Instagram creator incentive terms and rules. Key metrics for bonus consideration include post-performance (views) and overall posting frequency.

Detailed guidelines specify the types of content considered eligible for bonuses:

  • Posts must achieve a minimum of 2,500 views.
  • Posts containing copyrighted material, those lacking text, or those with artificially boosted views are ineligible.
  • Content watermarked with logos from other platforms (e.g., TikTok, YouTube) will be disqualified.
  • Brand partnership posts are excluded from the bonus program.

The professional dashboard allows creators to track their earnings, with a potential minimum threshold required to trigger a payout.

“In some cases, you must earn a minimum amount to receive a bonus payout. If you don’t reach the minimum amount, you will not receive any bonus payout, but you may be invited to participate in another bonus opportunity in the future,” the company explains.

This strategic move could attract Instagram users with large followings to Threads, encouraging them to share content and potentially migrate some of their audience. Instagram already integrates suggested Threads into its interface. The bonus program could entice users to engage with Meta’s burgeoning competitor, X, more frequently, especially if popular creators are active on the platform.

The bonus program presents a promising opportunity for creators seeking to establish an audience on a fresh platform. However, it’s important to note that Meta has not yet revealed its long-term plans for creator monetization on Threads, so the financial benefits of the program could be temporary.
