Each player requires their own access to the games you’re inviting them to.
Microsoft is making it easier than ever to connect and play with friends through Xbox Cloud Gaming. As part of the February Xbox update, a brand-new feature allows you to generate shareable game session links, making invitations seamless and more convenient.
With this update, you can create a shareable link directly from your game session and send it through an Xbox message or copy it to your clipboard to paste into your favorite messaging app. Whether you use WhatsApp, Discord, or plain old SMS, inviting friends to your game is as simple as sending a text.
Instant Access to Gaming Sessions
Friends can join your gaming session almost instantly. By clicking the link, they can launch the game on a supported PC, mobile web browser, or receive a unique code to enter on smart TVs and streaming devices that support Xbox gaming features. No need for complicated setups or lengthy downloads — just click, connect, and play.
Requirements and Restrictions
While the process is straightforward, there are a few requirements. Participants must have an Xbox account, and certain games will require an active Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Additionally, players must have the appropriate “entitlement” to access the game — either by owning the title outright, accessing it via Game Pass, or playing during a free-play period. This ensures everyone has the necessary rights to join the fun without unnecessary interruptions.

Flexible and Controlled Multiplayer Experiences
Microsoft has also built in flexible controls to make your gaming sessions stress-free. You can invite as many friends as the game allows, and if things get a little too chaotic, you can revoke access to the link at any time. Plus, for those moments when someone overstays their welcome (or isn’t playing nice), certain games will let you manually remove unwanted players.
Expanding the Horizons of Xbox Cloud Gaming
This new feature is just one piece of Microsoft’s larger vision for Xbox Cloud Gaming. In recent months, the platform has evolved rapidly, adding the ability to stream your personal game library — not just Game Pass titles — on a variety of devices, including mobile phones, PCs, and smart TVs. At launch, players could stream 50 supported titles, but that list is steadily growing. Recent expansions have brought in hits like Blasphemous II, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and Subnautica, giving players even more options to enjoy their favorite games from anywhere.
The Future of Social Cloud Gaming
This new invitation system is a clear signal that Microsoft is leaning into the social aspects of gaming, making it easier to share experiences with friends no matter where they are. By eliminating technical barriers and streamlining the invitation process, Xbox Cloud Gaming is bringing people closer together in the virtual worlds they love.
So, the next time you want to squad up for an intense co-op mission or just hang out in an open-world sandbox, all you’ll need to do is send a link — and let the gaming begin.
