The Meta-owned messaging platform is testing a new feature that allows iOS users to extract text from images. This new update version 23.5.77 makes use of the iOS 16 API to introduce Live Text capability. This feature enables users to copy, look up or even translate text from photos shared on WhatsApp. The new update also includes the ability to send Voice Statuses. Let’s delve into the details of this new feature.
WhatsApp’s New Text Detection Feature
The new WhatsApp feature allows iOS users to extract text from images shared on the platform. The feature uses the iOS 16 API and is similar to the Live Text feature introduced in iOS 16. This feature allows users to copy text from photos, look up the meaning of words, or translate text. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether this feature will be extended to WhatsApp videos too.
Voice Statuses
The new WhatsApp update also includes the ability to send Voice Statuses, which was recently introduced. The feature is now available widely for iOS users. It allows users to record audio and post it as a disappearing story. The rollout of this feature is expected to be gradual.
The new text detection feature is currently in beta testing and has started rolling out to some stable users. However, it is uncertain when it will be available for all users. We will keep you posted on the latest developments regarding this feature.
